President Speaks

Hello fellow Ford fans!

Well, we are finally in the thick of the summer fun, when weather permits.  Peg and I were at a show in Minneapolis. this weekend and they had a great day for their event.  As I sit at these car shows or wander around, it always amazes me what connections are made between the generations of the folks there.  Young and older, we all enjoy our car toy of choice and are always willing to share information and history of our cars.  In Minnepolis., we had an older, retired gentleman next to us and had just the best visit and 20 feet away we visited with a couple younger than our own children, yet we all on the same page and there for the same reason, to share the hobby we have all grown to enjoy.  As much as the cars are the stars of our shows, it is the folks that participate and attend that are the real winners at the car shows.

On a different note, does anyone know where to find a good deal on gas?  I learned how to save money on gas with my 2008 F150.  Here is the secret: SLOW DOWN!!  I can get 18-21 MPG with my truck, but I have to keep it around 65 MPH to do so.  Last weekend, I pulled 14 MPG towing my car trailer with a car inside.  I kept it at 62 MPH to achieve that, but was pretty satisfied.  I tried running faster and my mileage dropped to 10 MPG, so a lesson was learned.  The problem is it was still $150.00 in gas to go there and back.  Perhaps this will help keep the local cars in our shows and not have them leaving the area for other shows on the same day as ours.

Lastly, July 19th is the Island Park show.  Please assist where ever possible as we are always in need of a helping hand. Also, our midmonth is the June 19th picnic at Armour Park in West Fargo.  We can sort out the food arrangements at the June meeting.  Thanks to all and happy motoring.

Your Prez
Dean

From The Editor

Hi Northstar Mustangers,

It’s spring isn’t it?  Well, it is supposed to be anyway.  There I times I think a guy should move south!  Tell me again how many months we have to cruise?  Was that one or two?  It’s bound to turn around soon isn’t it?

How did the “day at the drags” go?  I’m looking forward to a report at the meeting.  Colleen and I were out of town or we would have gone to cheer on the other brave souls.  I hope everyone had fun.  We need some ideas for mid-month activities that appeal to different people.  If you have an idea, tell someone…you don’t have to organize it, just give us the idea.

Same with newsletter articles, ideas go a long way to helping me find something to get for an article.  This month’s idea came from someone who asked about turbos.  I thought about all the superchargers I have seen on cars lately and thought an article might clear up some questions or raise some.  There are a lot of web sites talking about turbos and superchargers and how easy they are to install!  Well, some may be, but to get the full benefit you have to do more than bolt on some parts.  They do look cool though.

Well, I did my good deed for the year…I fixed a friends Chevy!  Yes, I have friends that own Chevy’s and some are repairable.  He thought his neutral safety switch was bad, but before he ran over someone trying to start the pickup while shifting the automatic, I told him the solenoid was the culprit and it was repairable.  We fixed it, then I told him how easy it would have been on a Ford!  No crawling under the pickup, no removing the starter.  Well, anyway.
See you at the meeting Tuesday night.

Elton

The mid-month for June is scheduled for Thursday, June 19 at Armour Park in West Fargo. This is located north of Main Ave, north of the Harley Shop. So head way west on Main Avenue past Sheyenne Street. Dean told me we may want to change the date for this since they changed the Broadway Cruise Night from June 5 to June 19. So come to the meeting, watch your e-mail or give Dean or Elton a call for more details.

Also, I forgot to put in the Events, the OK Tire car show on Thursday, June 12 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm in the Kohl’s parking lot.
