President Speaks

Hello Ford lovers

One of the perks of my job is seeing at lot of different cars in my travels around the Dakotas and Minnesota. In the winter you can see cars in tree lines and there are many farmsteads flush with old cars. I get through Rugby, ND once a month or so and had heard there were some cool Fords there. Last time I went through, I stopped to check things out. Along Highway 2 that goes through Rugby, is a school bus lot, both new and used-200 or so, you can't miss them. Anyway, I pulled up the the place and went inside. There sitting right in front of me was a Pantera with Weber carbs, a 1969 428 CJ Mustang fastback, another '69 and then he had the best of all - a 1969 Boss 429 Mustang. Amazing, all the times I had driven by and never had a clue what was there. So I had a chance to visit with the owner of the cars and he then took me back to the other large storage buildings and they were full of Mustangs, old Fords and Caddy's. Convertibles, hardtops, even a 1958 or 1959 Ford 4 door hardtop station wagon-a first for me as I had never seen one of them. He also has a 1972 Mustang fastback with a 460 and twin turbochargers. And then there were the motorcycles. So, if you are ever going through Rugby, stop in and check these cars out. The owner is more than happy to treat you to showing you his treasures.

On a different note, Peg and I had one of her bugs-Pepe-in the Jamestown car show this past weekend. Peg received 2nd place in the specialty class and so did her car. One of the things we see in some of the different shows is the amount of hospitality they provide. I think we as a club should look at stepping up what we do for the fine folks that bring there classics to our shows. I am suggesting we up our fee to enter to $20.00. With the increased entrance fee, we would provide 2 meals, goody bag perhaps, t-shirt or some sort of special item. In Jamestown, everyone received a custom made key hanger-really a very unique item. They also get a deal on Hotwheels and allow all kids to pick one out. This gets the kids to drag their parents to the car show. A car show poker run at our shows is in my mind also. Everyone who enters our show walks around to 5 of our selected club members cars and get a poker card. The best hand wins some sort of prize. If anyone else has some ideas to provide some fun at our shows, please bring them to the meeting or drop me a note. Car shows are about car folks spending time with car folks, so let's make it a good experience for everyone. Think about it! See you next meeting night-bring a Ford friend!

From The Editor

Hi Everyone,
I’m back, sure glad I have a co-editor now!! Makes him feel “official” now, even though he was helping with the newsletter. I had a wonderful time in Wisconsin helping with the two granddaughters. I wish they were closer so I could see them more often. The weather there was about the same as here when we got there…snowy. Then after the first of the year it all melted and there was green grass, temps in the 50’s, a tornado went through south of us destroying some homes, then more snow. I arrived home to colder temperatures, which later got much, much colder. I will be glad to see the end of these sub-zero temperatures. Hope your vehicles have been problem free in these cold temperatures. Saw a few vehicles being towed in the cold temperatures last week.

A reminder to those who have not paid their dues...Dues run from January to December and are $20.00 per year which includes the Northstar Mustang Club calendar. If you have not paid, you can pay at the February meeting or send your dues to the club address…as shown on the return address or the inside front cover. A member list is included this month with a notation of who has paid. If your dues are not paid by the end of February, you will not receive the March newsletter.

See you at the meeting, Tuesday, February 12, at 6:30 at Luther Family Ford. Looks like it is chili night… bring some chili or something to go with the chili!!

Colleen
