President Speaks

July 3, 2005
Greetings Fellow Mustangers...

It is July!! And that means Car Show Season, I hope you all have been taking notes at the events you are attending, because it's our turn to host!!  The Downtown Street Fair Show is but two weeks away (16th) and the All ford Show is just over a month away, much planning and coordinating has been done, yet the loose ends still look like a can of malaria germs. but rest assured, the members of the respective committees will come thru.  I will provide a brief outline here as I see it, for those who cannot attend Tuesday night.

Downtown Street Fair Show, July 16
Club set up time is 7:00am!  Coffee will be provided, if you bring a car for display, have it ready to show as we have a lot of work to do early that morning.   I will try to be down there by 6:00am again to begin putting up signs and cones.  If you are an early riser I'd love to have help J   I will have a volunteer sheet at the meeting.
1) I believe we will be taking admission at the gate, (to prevent interlopers) therefore we will need about 4 people out at the entrance.
2) We will need folks to man the "Northstar Mustang Booth".  We have picked up several members at this booth and it is a great way to attract cars to our "All Ford Show".
3) We have gotten permission to cook brats and sell COKE products in the park, we will do this as a club, so volunteers will be needed to help with that.  (I would really appreciate a call from someone to chair the cooking portion, as soon as you read this. We will be meeting Saturday as a committee and I would like you to be there).
4) Parking, we/you get to the park on Saturday, we will park you right away, I would like the club cars to be intermingled all over the area so that it does not give the impression that this is a Mustang show, it is open to all makes and models and we don't want any one to not feel welcome.  We may use your car to start a line up or to block an access, by the dumpsters ect..  Something that we may not ask a visiting attendee.  Remember we/you are the hosts of this event, not attendees.
5) Sound system and tents, we will be setting up the club tent out at the entrance again, and may borrow a larger one for our sound system and trophies.  We'll need to get that set up also.  The club has purchased a sound system and PAso that we can save on hiring a DJ.  As a member, please pay special attention to the volume near our guests, if it is too loud, let us know, we may be able to turn a speaker or tone it down.
6) THE CRUISE/POKER RUN the night before...  Details are being finalized on Saturday morning, I may need to call on a few of you members to step up and help with this too, it would be to man a table at each stop to help with the poker hand and give directions  Easy stuff, just need some help.  The cruise will start at the SEARS - in West Acres at 6:00 - then probably to White Diamonds, then Advance Auto on 13th & 25th , Quality Auto body on 25th, then to Vic's Bar at the Moorhead Center Mall, for a burger, then on to the University Drive Dairy Queen for Dessert and a winner of the Poker hands at about 8 or so.

Till then, see You Tuesday, or Friday night at Sears!
Da Prez

William Jefferson Clinton,   I'm running out of prezes

Todd Fuchs

One redeeming thing that I could find on Bill Clinton was he used to have a Mustang and Elcamino with "astoturf" in the box, which would be pretty cool for July Picnics. - Todd dat waskely white wing conservative president.

From The Editor

Hey Everyone,
It's summer....you know warm and chance of thunderstorms.  Haven't had the Mustang out much...have spent more time on the tractor and riding lawn mower!!

The club is now in the car show mode.  The next two months we have two major shows.  So bear with us as we try to make it through them.  Most of the time we survive the shows with only minor mental problems. Some of us require only depressant applications to remain as sane as we ever are.

We have noticed that we don't have a lot of car shows listed on our events page...so if you know of a car show coming up, please send us the information by e-mail, phone, or heaven forbid...letter.

On the 4th I was over at the neighbor's chatting over his Ford pickup when I noticed the manifold looked wet.  Long story short, the accelerator pump was leaking.  Which brings up a point, CHECK your car BEFORE you drive them, in case there is a problem.  Gas leaks on a hot engine are a recipe for disaster.  A quick glance will many times tell you if there is a major problem.

That's all for now but remember we need help at the Street Fair and the All ford Car Shows.  If you can help please let someone on the committees know.

Hope to see everyone at the meeting and the upcoming car shows.

Elton and Colleen

Car Show Chair

Once again this year, Northstar Mustangs is sponsoring two activities for members of our club as well as all other classic car and vehicle enthusiasts on Friday and Saturday, July 15th and 16th.  These activities are part of the Downtown Street Fair, which annually draws more than 50,000 people to downtown Fargo for its three day run.  There have been some subtle changes in the Street Fair layout, the most noticeable is the relocation of the food court, which will be two blocks North on Broadway.  That move has allowed us to operate our own food "stand", compliments of fellow member Dean Skaflen of "no Name Meats" who has become this club's personal chef du jour....with no complaints from anyone.  More on that and other details at our meeting.

Last years Friday Evening Classic Car Cruise was an overwhelming success.  We anticipated about 25 vehicles and were overwhelmed by the 70 that eventually showed up.  This year's cruise is expanded to include a "poker run" and feature stops at selected supporters of out club in West Fargo, Fargo and Moorhead.  Final details are still being worked out but it looks like we will start at Sears, in the West acres Parking to.  Registration will be at that facility.   Registration will include directions for all the stops and additional information on how to win the poker hand.  Bring your appetite because the last two stops will include dinner at Vic's Bar at the Moorhead Center Mall followed by dessert at the Dairy Queen located at 402 North University Drive, Fargo.   Our hostess at the Dairy Queen is June Skari, mother of Matt, a fellow club member and our former president

The following morning, Saturday the 16th, is the third annual Downtown Street Fair Car Show.   If there's one comment we hear each year it's the fact that we offer a venue that has many options you won't find anywhere else:  the option to choose sun, shade, green grass and wherever you choose be prepared to meet and greet lots and lots of interested people!  Last years show attracted more than 15,000 interested spectators and 160 registrants.  To this, add "Games to Go" for the kids which will be located in front of Island Park Swimming Pool, 400+ vendors at the Downtown Street Fair and the large choice of international foods served at the food courts, and you have an event that's hard to beat.

Once again, your car show and cruise committee ask for your help.  Tim will need people to assist him in the Friday Evening Car Cruise, he'll have definite explanations of those needs at our meeting on the 12th.   In President Todd's letter he goes into more details of our needs at the car show, but briefly we'll need assistance in these areas:
The parking and at the end of the day, release of show vehicles
Members to take digital pictures of the cars, spectators and the venue
Members to "man" the food stand
Members to assist in the registration of vehicles
A volunteer to "man" the Northstar Mustangs information "booth"

At our meeting on te 12th, you'll be able to hear more details on both events and also be able to volunteer your talents to help this club.  last year our hard work and visibility as a club at this event, led directly to eight new members!  Speaking on behalf of the committee of the Downtown Street Fair Car Show and Friday Evening Cruise, your efforts and assistance in making these events such a success are very much appreciated! -------------------------------Craig
