President Speaks

June, 2006

AAARRGGGHHHH!!! Another mid-month event hampered by rain! What is this?? ND weather?? Oh well, we all had a good time at Hooligans in West Fargo. Rick, the owner of Hooligans asked if we could come again on a Wednesday evening when it isn’t raining. If we do, they will block off the north side of the parking lot and let us use the patio. This was the plan for the mid-month, but with the rain, we didn’t have the “nice” cars out

The committee members for the Island Park show have decided to hold a cruise to DQ instead of the poker run this year. This will eliminate a lot of time and effort for everyone, and enable us to focus on the Island Park show instead.

Along with this news, it was also determined that yes, we are having the All Ford Show on August 12. The president allowed things to get carried away before we had asked Luther Ford if it was ok. We will be having the show at Luther Ford, and I am sure we will have as much fun as last year

I would like to thank all the people who have helped secure funding and locations for the two shows this year. Without your help and initiative, we would still be trying to figure out if we would have a show. A special thanks to Dean and Peggy S., Elton and Colleen S., and Loren K.

I spoke with Stephanie from the FM Downtown Community Partnership and let her know that the Northstar Mustang members would volunteer to help them again this year. Stephanie had asked that we cover the September 7 time slot. Stephanie was ecstatic about this, and thinks we are wonderful.

Last, but definitely not least, I would again like to thank Dean and Peg for the use of their garage mahal for our May meeting. The steaks were wonderful, the dishes that our members brought were excellent, and the president was well stuffed by the end of the evening; all in all a good evening even though it rained (of course).

Items for discussion in May:

  • Mid month committee update
  • TBD
  • sponsorships
  • volunteers for Island Park Show
  • Status of business cards
  • Other

I am looking forward to seeing you all on the 13th.

Chad, missed

After Meeting Activity

After the meeting on Tuesday, June 13, we will cruise to a shop in the Dilworth area for a shop tour.

No word from the mid-month committee as to an event this month. Come to the meeting to see what is planned. If you can’t make it to the meeting but are interested, watch for an e-mail or call one of the officers to see what was decided at the meeting.

From The Secretary

May Meeting – May 9, 2006
The Prez gaveled the meeting to order promptly at 7:00.
1st order of business as directed by the Prez was "Let's eat".
7:40 Prez resumes meeting.
Prez asks if the secretary’s minutes are accepted as written.  Brenda took exception with the statement that the business cards were ordered.  She had questions about the design.  The illustrious secretary said they must be ordered as it was in the minutes.  Brenda was undaunted.  She will come up with some designs for next meeting.  Dean moves we accept the secretary’s minutes for the May meeting, Colleen seconded and they were accepted unanimously.
The Treasurer reports we have money.  Dean writes checks to whoever asks.  He states we have not paid for the trailer yet.  Peggy says we will not pay till it is here.
Todd wants to know about the hot dog boxes.  Dean S. says he will take care of it.
Car show talk.  Much confusion.  Who are the sponsors?  Car show committees will take care of it.  Gary moves we have committees for each and Dean H. seconds, it passes unanimously.
Committees will report back at Hooligans on Wednesday, May 24th at 6:30.
Car Show Committees
Elton will check with Dakota Bumper
Chad will check with Quality Auto
Poker Run Committee
Dean and Peg will check with Luther
Brenda will check with Advanced Auto
Elton will check with D.Q.
The next Downtown Cruise Nite will be June 1st.  Since we were rained out, the Downtown Merchants wanted to know if we would handle parking for the Sept 7th Cruise.
Bruce moves and Dave 2nds that we accept the invitation and it passes.
Red River Church invites us to a Car Show on Fathers Day, June 17th.
Mark asks about the engine we have.  Todd suggests we sell it for what we have in it. Elton will check on our cost.
Mark moves we adjourn, Greg seconds and it passes enthusiastically.

Mark

From The Editor

Ford Lover's

The cruise to Hooligan’s was ok, but weather was a problem, cold and rainy. It was still fun to get together and talk about cars. But VW’s and Gremlins? Yeah, I guess. We have a commitment to do both car shows this summer. People have been calling and asking about the shows, even from Canada…so we must be doing something right! The Downtown Cruise night on Thursday, June 1 was fun also. Lots of cars, nice hotrods, bikes and classic cars. It was a nice evening after the late afternoon rain. Next month they will have some dash plaques (not sure how many 25or 50?) and door prizes. Our club had a few winners this time. Someone asked why so many show up for the cruise but don’t show up for a show? Well, this is fre, it is only for a few hours, its on a weekday evening…need I go on? When we were at Hooligan’s we were talking about what engine was in what cars. Did the 64 ½ Mustang have a 289 or were there only 260’s? When did the 302 standard production start? You know the questions, I found a book that kind of shows but is it accurate? Ford always had a tendency to do "running" changes. For some reason I thought the Mustang got a 302 in 67 but they don’t show that. Also, I was told that only one 4 bbl 289 was available in 64 ½ but they list 2, 4bbls and a 2bbl, a cruise-o-matic, 3 speed and 4 speed manual and overdrive. Wow! What do you think, are they right?? Next meeting discussion topic?

See you on Tuesday night, June 13.

Elton
