President Speaks

March 1, 2005
My Fellow Mustangers,

A wise, wise man told me 'bout a month ago, "If you try to do everything for this club yourself.  You will burn yourself out."  Therefore, over the last few weeks I have asked more of some of you.  And boy, what a response!  Thank you!

We had three committee meetings this month, an early Downtown Car Show Committee meeting, a Mid-Month Activities meeting, and a Finance Committee meeting.  All were well attended by their members, and the groups stepped up to the plate to take their individual tasks to hand.

The Downtown people are coming up with a great plan to present to the club (Probably at the April or May meeting).  They have the big disadvantage of dealing with a number of community groups before they can make even a simple decision.  Wouldn’t it be nice if the only thing you had to do were print posters and park cars! Thanks Guys, keep up the great work, summers right around the corner.

The Mid-Month Meeting group really took the show on the road; literally, Ralph and Tom Askland drove clear out of town on a “scouting mission” to a neat photo shoot/ cruise night spot north of Aire.  They also tentatively planned something for each month thru December.  The first club activity will be March 22 the 4th Tuesday of this month! They have decided that the club shall meet at the Highway Host in West Fargo at 6:00.  We will depart to run out to Hagge’s Nightclub in Mapleton.   If you are running late, Hagge’s is between I-94 and Mapleton in a deceivingly simple looking building.   Hope to see you all out there for a great evening of Mustang fellowship.  The rest of the calendar year, we will discuss at the meeting.

The finance group got together and has cut the checks for our donations.  If everything had gone according to plan, (but the prez dropped ball) the photos would have been on the front cover.   (Maybe next month)    Many thanks to Tim, Craig, & Brenda.

Mark U. has communicated with Joel @ Luther Ford to confirm our August 13 date for the All Ford Show.   We will have to put a 2-3 member committee together for that show later this spring.   Luther Ford did an awesome job of supporting our show last year, which makes planning next years a ton easier than the Street Fair show.  Thanks Joel!

I would like to close by saying thank you to all who brought Chili last month, we have some really good cooks in the club, someone even got his wife to cook for us, and what did she get in return?   You will have to ask our Chili Cook-off Winner -Bob Taylor.  For “his” culinary "skills" Bob was awarded a $25 gift certificate to Mustangs Unlimited.  -Courtesy of our "Unofficial Prize Provider" -Kristina H.  Thanks Kristina!!

Your Club president,
James A. Garfield

Todd Fuchs

I learned on the history channel, that after President Garfield was mortally wounded, he was taken to the New Jersey seaside.  To keep him comfortable the Navy Dept.  invented air conditioning.
(Comes in handy for 3 days in August!!)

From The Secretary

February Meeting – February 8, 2005

President Todd called the meeting to order at 6:45 pm.  We needed to get all the chili set up and needed to move some tables and chairs.  Introductions.   Craig moved to approve minutes.  Second by Maggie.  Approved.   Tim gave Treasurer’s report…we have money in the bank…Committee meeting next Tuesday to discuss donations.

Craig is doing Reader’s Rides, has about 10 done.  Stop by and talk to him after the meeting and see what they look like.
Tad- website- has created a section for Craig to put the Readers’ Rides on.
Christina brought some stuff she had in her trunk, catalogs, we can use them in the gift bags at the car show.
Has $100 in gift certificates.  She has a call in to Carroll Shelby, but no response yet.

Car Shows: Downtown Street Fair is July 16 and looking at Aug. 13 for the All Ford Car Show.

Activities: Ralph said nothing planned for February, they are looking at something for March.   Pizza Party is in April.

Red River Church in West Fargo is looking at having a car show in June.  Talked about having the club members show their cars in the parking lot the morning of West Fest (Sept.).  Some talk that is the same day as the Valley Vintage Car show at the Veteran’s Arena in West Fargo.

Downtown Car show committee will be meeting.  Need a leader for the All Ford Car Show.

Time to eat chili.  Bob Taylor took top honors for his chili.  Brenda P. was second.  Meeting disintegrated.
Respectfully submitted,
Colleen substituting for Mark who was gone

From The Editor

Mustang & Ford Lovers,

Winter is nearing the end! That’s the good news.  The bad news is that winter is still here! March is here and that means a couple of things…People start getting anxious to get their cars out.  Well it starts with the Topper’s car show which is April 2-3 this year (the weekend after Easter).  That kind of kicks things off.

March is also the time we as editors take stock of how many members we failed to retain.   Our question is why? Were they dissatisfied with activities, the members, the car shows, the newsletter, or what? Maybe they just procastinated.  We have lost a few members, but we have also gained a few.  Some of those who have not paid their dues, may join again.  This seems to happen every year.  I guess we should expect it, but I always wonder why.  Guess it means a few less newsletters to mail.

I am still looking for a recommendation of a garage to do mechanical repairs for a fellow form the Cities.  He wants the mechanical work done in Fargo because the car is here.  It’s an older Mustang and he wants to do the body work in the Cities.  Any suggestions?? Please let me know at the meeting or e-mail me.

The Downtown Street Fair Car show committee has started to meet.  One item is the PA system.  Does any member have something that would work or know someone who wants to part with a system? Let us know.  See you at the meeting, March 8 at Luther Family Ford.

Elton & Colleen
