President Speaks

Nov 1, 2005
My fellow Mustangers,

Alas the election season has arrived, as you travel around town you cannot help but be astounded by the advertising for all the elected offices in the Northstar Mustang Cub. From webmaster to president, all these candidates are jockeying for the attention of the assembled masses, each eager to volunteer their service to our club. Yes, the sweet smell of the election season surrounds us. (Did you know that election and ejection are but one typo letter apart?)

I would like to first thank again Dean and Peggy Skaflen for their warm hospitality that they showed last month, hosting our steak fry/meeting in their “Garagmahall” This was even more gracious due to the short notice. -Thank You J

Next, I would like to welcome our humble secretary Mark Ugelstead back to the fold. If you remember from the last newsletter, he and dozens of his guard unit were in Mississippi for hurricane relief. Welcome home Mark, bring pictures to the meeting. (Mark rented an airplane and took his friends up for rides to look over the damage.)

Last month we discussed the possibility of purchasing a utility trailer to put all our club’s car show materials into, thus keeping it all together. If you found a good deal, bring the info to the meeting. I have found a real nice 6x12 single axle with a V nose, but it is just a touch over the 2000-2500 that we discussed, I may be able to bring it to the meeting for you all to look at. But if you know of a good deal, we would then to be able to compare price vs. features.

Also this president wishes to apologize for failing to email out a notice that Luther Ford had a Ford GT in their showroom, it was there for just a few days while it waited for the transport company to take it to Wisconsin. Sorry. (It was on my things to do right away tomorrow list) Craig took lots of Pictures.

I just finished signing the faxes committing the club to the Christmas Party next month. We will need to get a head count at this months meeting. As decided at the last meeting we are doing a buffet, at the Moorhead Courtyard by Marriott. It is scheduled for our meeting night, Tuesday December 13th. Jon Braton made a lot of calls on our behalf for this event. Thanks Jon.

I will close by again repeating, this month is election/ejection night. The nominations are still open so be there or be nominated, and voted in!! The butterflies have been caught in the flowerbeds, to be processed into ballots, and by the end of the night the only chad not to be still hanging will be Chad Parton, who is one of our nominees, so be nice to him!

Till Tuesday,
Your President, (for one more month!!!!)
Millard Fillmore
Todd Fuchs

I picked Millard, because he’s like the duck in the comic strip, and I feel like a lame duck president.

From The Editor

Hi,
As editor I have some perks. One is I get news letters from a couple other clubs. Usually nothing interesting but this month the one had some ideas about vehicle storage, which is a current topic. They said a lot about cleaning the car, waxing the exterior and cleaning the interior. And storage of the engine, you know change oil and antifreeze, put in fuel stabilizer. They also said that oil dumped in the carb when running will preserve the upper cylinder. One must be careful as too much too fast can cause hydraulic lock and ruin the engine. That is the problem with giving information, to most people it wouldn’t be a problem, but if you don’t much about it, well, bad things can happen. Just like using diesel fuel or water to remove carbon from an engine by pouring “some” in the engine while it is running. How much, how fast? Well, therein lies the problem. You should store your car with clean oil and fresh gas. Also, change the antifreeze if it hasn’t been changed in the last 2 or 3 years. Most people say don’t leave the engine “dry” that can create more problems. Well enough.

Elections are this month and the Christmas party is next month. Busy time. Remember if you were nominated, now is the time to campaign, pay off voters, bribe other nominees or what ever. Only a few days left. See you at the November meeting.

Elton

From The Secretary

October Meeting – October 11, 2005

The meeting was called to order by the President, Todd at sometime after 6:00 pm. The meeting was held in Dean and Peggy’s garage. The meeting place was changed due to space issues at Craig and Tim’s shop.

Chad moved, second by Larry H to approve the Secretary’s report.

Old Business:
Decals: Todd got a sample one, but it was too big and he left it at home.
Event Shirts: Loren brought in samples from Sew What. Yellow polo shirts for $20 with the Mustang Club emblem and your name.
Better quality ones were out of stock, but should be available in about 3 months. Loren will check to see if they have them in
women’s sizes. Orders were taken and if you weren’t at the meeting, you can sign up at the next meeting.
Calendar: More car photos needed. If you haven’t had your car in recently and would like to have your car included, pictures are
needed by November meeting. You can contact Dave S if you would like to have someone take a photo of your car.
Jackets: Elton modeled. Need to order soon to have by Christmas party. Jackets are about $75. Meeting gaveled back to order.
Christmas Party: Will be Tuesday, December 13 at Courtyard by Marriott in Moorhead. The 2 entrée buffet will be boneless
chicken breast and pork chops. Cost will be about $20 per person with tax and gratuity. Includes a chance
to win a 1 night stay at the hotel in a king spa room.

Steaks are done…everyone left to fill their plates and eat.

Treasurer’s report…Tim unable to make it to the meeting. We do have money in the account. Donations have been made to the Roger Maris Cancer Center and the Hurricane Katrina Relief Drive. Not all money is in from the All Ford Car Show. Discussion about the club purchasing a 6 x 10 or 6 X 12 trailer to store club tents, tables, speakers, etc. Jon will look into it, check prices. Prefer one with a door on the side. Will also need to decide where to store it. All members are to keep their eyes open for a trailer.

Greg F. asked if the club had thought of purchasing a Mustang to fix up and sell. Gary said he had a car people could work on.

Nominations for Officers for 2006
Editor: Elton and Colleen volunteered to do it again
Downtown Car Show Chair: Craig volunteered to do it again
      Webmaster: Tad was nominated
Treasurer: Tim does not want to do it again, Greg F and Dean S volunteered or were appointed. (Dean says he has Ball Park pens.)
      Secretary: Mark was nominated again
Vice President: Brenda P volunteered ( because she doesn’t want to be president!), Dave S was nominated
President: Brenda P and Chad were nominated. Todd and Dave Meyer were also nominated, but both respectfully declined!) Nominations were closed for this meeting. Further nominations can be made at next month's meeting. Time to campaign, bribe, whatever before the meeting.

Thanks to Dean S for the meat and hospitality and to Dean H for grilling.
Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted....
Colleen/for Mark

From The Editor

Hello Everyone,
Just a few words from me this time. We are back from our long weekend trip to Iowa where we had the opportunity (thanks to our son-in-law) to see and hear Paul McCartney in concert. It was AWESOME!! Fantastic show! We also got to visit our little granddaughter, daughter and son-in-law. We had beautiful weather for the trip. We have had a lovely fall. Hope some of you have taken advantage of the nice weather to drive your Mustang a few times. Now ‘tis the season for Elton to go deer hunting, so we need to get this in the mail before hunting occupies his mind too much!!
