October 5, 2005,
My Fellow Mustangers, Summers Gone, 20 inches of snow back home, and I’m still thinking about the Broadway cruise night 4 days ago. 75 degrees, it got dark early, and the cars just shined under the lights. It was so nice nobody wanted to go home. Now it seems winter is upon us. The changing of the seasons brings on also the changing of the clubs leadership. I have often jested in my letters with old quotes of US presidents. As I watched a rock and roll documentary on TV the other night, I saw LBJ say something that I find appropriate for me – “I will not run for, nor shall I accept the nomination of my party in the next election.” Or something like that. I have had 2 great years, but its time for new ideas and fresher blood. I will do my very best to help whomever it is you folks nominate on Tuesday night. The elections are next month (November). So this is your warning- BE THERE OR BE NOMINATED! Our meeting will be held out at Craig and Tim’s shop near the northern most edge of Metropolitan St. Benedict. Our faithful photographer Dave Sampson put together the map and our front cover. Also thanks in advance to Dean Skaflen for the No-Name steaks he is once again providing. As in other club cook-outs, bring your own plates, utensils and beverages if you would like something other than car show leftovers- Pop and water. Also a good idea to bring a chair. It is going to be a bit crowded in the shop on Tuesday, the guys have it full of cars for the winter and have rented some of the heated workspace to an individual so we will just have to work around it. Couple of notes: Bring your photos for the calendar if you wish to get your car into next years edition. If you would like to place a jacket order we need to do it Tuesday night, to get them by Christmas party.
Mark Uglested was not at the meeting last month to take notes, so I did. Then I lost the piece of paper. I have a story that I hoisted from the Fargo Forum that I will insert into the secretaries report because we are all proud of the work our local guardsmen do for us and are doing in the gulf region. If I remember correctly, we did not have a secretary, treasurer, or vice president present. And oh yea, the prez himself showed up late. We did however have a good meeting we discussed: event shirts, the Christmas party- John Braton is making some calls, and we recapped a number of car shows. If I forgot something please bring it up again at the meeting.
Pictured is your humble president presenting Mike Waters a check for $200 for the Roger Maris “61 for 61” fundraiser. They raised over $100,000 for cancer research. Thanks fellow Mustangers for the privilege of representing our club. See you Tuesday night.
