President Speaks

October 5, 2005,

My Fellow Mustangers,

Summers Gone, 20 inches of snow back home, and I’m still thinking about the Broadway cruise night 4 days ago.   75 degrees, it got dark early, and the cars just shined under the lights. It was so nice nobody wanted to go home.   Now it seems winter is upon us. The changing of the seasons brings on also the changing of the clubs leadership.   I have often jested in my letters with old quotes of US presidents. As I watched a rock and roll documentary on TV the other night, I saw LBJ say something that I find appropriate for me – “I will not run for, nor shall I accept the nomination of my party in the next election.” Or something like that. I have had 2 great years, but its time for new ideas and fresher blood.   I will do my very best to help whomever it is you folks nominate on Tuesday night. The elections are next month (November).   So this is your warning- BE THERE OR BE NOMINATED!

Our meeting will be held out at Craig and Tim’s shop near the northern most edge of Metropolitan St. Benedict. Our faithful photographer Dave Sampson put together the map and our front cover. Also thanks in advance to Dean Skaflen for the No-Name steaks he is once again providing. As in other club cook-outs, bring your own plates, utensils and beverages if you would like something other than car show leftovers- Pop and water. Also a good idea to bring a chair. It is going to be a bit crowded in the shop on Tuesday, the guys have it full of cars for the winter and have rented some of the heated workspace to an individual so we will just have to work around it.

Couple of notes:

  • Bring your photos for the calendar if you wish to get your car into next years edition.
  • If you would like to place a jacket order we need to do it Tuesday night, to get them by Christmas party.
  • Mark Uglested was not at the meeting last month to take notes, so I did.  Then I lost the piece of paper.   I have a story that I hoisted from the Fargo Forum that I will insert into the secretaries report because we are all proud of the work our local guardsmen do for us and are doing in the gulf region.
If I remember correctly, we did not have a secretary, treasurer, or vice president present. And oh yea, the prez himself showed up late.  We did however have a good meeting we discussed: event shirts, the Christmas party- John Braton is making some calls, and we recapped a number of car shows.  If I forgot something please bring it up again at the meeting.

Pictured is your humble president presenting Mike Waters a check for $200 for the Roger Maris “61 for 61” fundraiser.   They raised over $100,000 for cancer research.  Thanks fellow Mustangers for the privilege of representing our club.

    See you Tuesday night.

    September Meeting – September 13, 2005,
The President arrived late and called the meeting to order about 6:50.  Introductions made.  Mark is in Mississippi with the Guard.  Treasurer, not here either.  And no Vice President…Elton moved, Greg A seconded to approve the minutes of the August meeting.

Dave announced his new arrival….a 69 burgundy Mustang.

    Old Business:
Calenders:  If you are interested in having your car in the Calendar, you can contact Dave and he can take pictures of your car.
Christmas Party: Jon checked into prices at the Holiday Inn. Looking at Buffet. He will check some other places
that were suggested and report back to the club.
61 for 61: October 1, plan for Color run that day. Meet at 10:00 am at Moorhead rest area. Greg checking to see if good to go to
                      Wicklunds again.

Todd thanked club for helping with Katrina aid…cost was about $200.00

Next month is nominations for officers, elections in November. Also, steak fry or turkey at Craig and Tims’s shed.

All Ford Car Show –Food did well. Suggested we may want to run some ads in classifieds before the car show to attract cars.

Other car shows…Barnesville, Valley Vintage, Tintmasters, Mayville, Wheels and Wings, Watertown…
Christmas party discussion about gifts. Polo shirts for events…$20 per shirt with log at Sew What...talked about one color for the club…yellow.  Announced that Luther Valley Ford Parts dept closes at 7:00 now.  Decals… Todd will bring sample next month.  Some people interested in ordering club jackets.  Kristina asked for t-shirts to take to CA and have them autographed.  Elton and Colleen will check to see if we have any left from previous years.  Chaos…Dave said chassis dyno on Thursday at 11:00 at Sturdevants’s in Wahpeton.

    Meeting adjourned.

    Respectfully submitted….
    Colleen /for Mark

    From The Editor

    Hello Everybody,

The weather has sure turned.  One day it is in the 80s and sunny, the next day is 50 and raw.  What a change! We know it is coming, but such a quick change…No gradual cool down.  That’s ND and MN.  Hopefully, we will still have some nice weather…Indian summer!!  I suppose it is getting to the time for some of us to put our cars away again.  Seems like this summer was short, for us anyway.  So much going on that when there was an open weekend, car stuff was not the highest priority.  And sometimes just resting seemed good.  I must be getting old or something.

We went out and looked at the GT40.  Wow, is that pretty, and in the original colors.  As my students would say "Sweet!" I wonder who bought it…It will be interesting to see if it shows up on the street or at a car show sometime.

The Trading Post is getting full which is good.  However, the editors would appreciate knowing if you no longer have an item for sale/rent/or no longer in the market for.  If you have an item in there and want it removed, please e-mail Colleen so she can remove it and keep the list current.

If you have something you wish to have listed, please e-mail that to Colleen also.  If we need to devote a whole page to the Trading Post…that works for us.

I better close for now, but remember…October is Officer Nomination month.  So if you have high political aspirations, now is the time to throw your hat in the ring.  (Or if you are afraid someone may nominate you, you should be at the October meeting. See you at the shed on Tuesday, October 11 for a good steak. Note the meeting time…see the map for directions.
